The Curfew

by T.M. Logan

Star Rating 3/5

Mmmm! To be honest, I’m not sure what to say about this one and I don’t want to waste much time reviewing it. I listened to it on audiobook and I’m glad I did. I think I would have given up if it was in written format otherwise.

I did see some mixed reviews on this book and I can understand why but I’ve read a few of this authors books and so I ‘preordered’ the book ready to go. But I think I will sit firmly on the fence with this one. Yes the pacing was good, yes the suspense was good but the characters were weak which drove me mad!. And I thought the ending was just plain silly.

I’ve found this author a little hit and miss. I’ve read The Holiday which I thought was great (hence listening to this one!) but then I thought The Catch was silly even if all the great reviews. The Curfew is on a similar lines to The Catch so I’m sure if you were a fan of that, you will love this.

The book is set around a doctor, Andy and his wife Laura who’s teenage son goes out one night to party with some friends, only for one of them to go missing and their son to be then accused. And that is it! The whole book is centered around how Andy investigates why his son is involved in the disappearance of this girl, Emily.

Andy jumps around from one hazard to another. One minute he’s talking to people he shouldn’t, then he’s in the press, then the police are interrogating him. How he doesn’t get sacked from his job I’m not sure as he keeps going awol! I know my boss would have something to say if I kept leaving my workplace without a word.

I do think T J Logan is good at building a scene for the finale but then the ending becomes quite rushed, almost like he’s eager to finish writing it himself. I do think if you are a dedicated follower of his, then you will enjoy this read but for me 2 out of the 3 I’ve read have missed the mark – maybe this is the last one!
