THE SPANISH LOVE DECEPTION

By Elena Armas

Star Rating 3/5

Again this was one of those You Tube/Tik Tok books everyone seems to be talking about. In fact, I believe they are even making a movie of this book. So I had to try it for myself.

Another enemy to lovers romance (my favourite type!) whereby Catalina has to find a way of taking a ‘fake’ boyfriend to her sister’s wedding in Spain. Come in Mr Blue Eyes, Aaron Blackford. Colleague and all time competitor!

I did swing between 2 stars to 4 stars for this one. The book is a ‘real’ slow burner. And Catalina is one of the most annoying characters I have ever come across. She is stubborn, childish and so uptight. At times, I just wanted to scream at her “give the guy a rest, he’s trying to be nice”.

It wasn’t until I was a good half way through that I started to warm to her and Aaron was just so patient. But things did change and once they were – eventually – in Spain the book came into its own. It was here a easy 4 star read.

I would say the book is at least one hundred pages too long. The beginning drags incredibly but I’m glad I stuck with it. The last third of the book is much better written and the characters are more likeable. Unfortunately, though if the film sticks with the script, I don’t think I will be watching it. It would be far too boring I’m afraid for me.
